About Great Canadian Healing

We began Great Canadian Healing, in 1999 in Toronto and it was our dream to have our own medicinal herb farm. We found the perfect spot near Bancroft, south of Algonquin Park, in the beautiful hills of Boulter, Ontario. It is 20 acres of mixed forest and wilderness, marsh and meadows.

Unspoiled and lush with life, the area is abundant with St. John's wort, yarrow, golden rod, catnip and comfrey along with a multitude of wild flowers, berries and fruit trees. Clean air, rich soil and spring fed streams and lakes abound. Medicinal plants we harvest grow wild in a synergistic community made up of all these other companion plants.

A wide variety of wildlife call this land home. We are delighted to share the resources of our beautiful land with every creature big and small. Ancient mineral deposits from the long-gone Grenville Mountain range give the area a special energy that we believe makes the local medicinal plants—and our products—so powerful and healing. Bancroft is the mineral captital of Canada for good reason!

During harvest we wildcaft the herbs for the medicinal oils that become key ingredients in our products. Each plant is carefully harvested during the prime time of day when the morning dew has dried and the plant oils have risen into the leaves and flowers for optimum power. The chopped flowers and leaves are then prepared with cold pressed olive oil within hours of picking and stored in amber glass jars in a cool, dark enviroment for several weeks until it is time for making the stock medicinal oils.

We never over harvest any plant and recommend to others to be sensitive to ecosystems. If we value our native medicinal plants they will continue to return each season and allow all of us to use them for the gift of healing.
